Dear Resident,
What a amazing few weeks we have had. I completed three weeks of work in 15 days and have just begun getting through the hundreds of emails, phone calls and letters which came in during that time. I'm glad to be back in touch with you. I've included the police reports from Suzanne Stephens below.
To say our community and United States as a whole have been through some recent challenges is a huge understatement. It appears we will continue to be faced with more difficulty as our Federal government work to address the financial mess we are in currently. I would encourage you to share your thoughts about the proposed "bailout" being discussed in Washington DC with your US Senate and House representatives. While this is still a moving target as to what it will include, I am attempting to keep up with the details as they become available. I would welcome your thoughts on the issue, though I will not likely be able to respond directly to each of them. I hope to communicate with each of our elected officials as this process moves forward.
Later today at 4pm, there will be a public hearing before the Planning Commission regarding the Bakertown/Antioch Pike Neighborhood SP. Feel free to attend and share your thoughts for or against at the Metro Southeast (Old Genesco) Building. Councilman-at-Large Charlie Tygard will be bringing this proposal forward as my property was included and I will recuse myself.
I will be working with the Hands on Nashville organization as project coordinator at Apollo Middle School this Saturday morning from 8am 'til noon. We could still use a couple of volunteers. If interested, please go to www.hon.org and select "Browse school project sites now!," then scroll down to project number 5. I have been told that the $25 registration fee can be waved or reduced if needed. We will have a lot of fun and make a difference for our community school.
Please pardon this shameless plug. For those that may be interested in a "Smart Savings Card™" commonly called a SmartCard, my daughters are selling them. These are great deals that include discounts or deals at Home Depot, BestBuy, OfficeMax, Applebee's, plus many other stores and restaurants. Details can be found at www.smartsavingslink.com. Call to get your order in before they stop selling them.
There will be meetings seeking public input regarding the Harding Place Extension next week. I have received this notice regarding the Harding Place, Ext. courtesy of 53rd District House Representative, Janis Sontany:
Harding Place, Ext. Official Meetings
Sept. 30 – 6:00 p.m. Hickman Elementary School
Oct. 2 – 6:00 p.m. Una Elementary School
These meetings will be very important with comments being recorded and
included as part of the official file.
Both meetings will cover the same information.
Some issues have been:
• The closing of Old Murfreesboro Road.
• Four additional traffic lights from the intersection of Smith Springs Road and Old Murfreesboro Road, and Murfreesboro Road to the proposed new intersection of Murfreesboro Road at Faircloth/Town Park.
• Wasting taxpayers money to acquire land and to build an additional lane on Murfreesboro Road when Old Murfreesboro is already handling that traffic.
• Fair price for right-of-way properties and other issues regarding right-of-way.
• Destroying the environment including old-growth trees.
Please let your neighbors know of these two upcoming and critical meetings to be held on the Harding Place Extension.
Many of you may have received a card or letter from the Planning Department about the Rural Hill Road "Detailed Neighborhood Design Plan." The Kick Off Meeting will be held Wednesday, October 8 at St. Ignatius Church on Bell Rd. This plan will establish a community development blueprint to help protect the values of your homes and provide for responsible and meaningful growth. Meetings will be held throughout this fall and into spring. I encourage everyone to participate. Other meetings will be as below:
Meeting 2 - Visioning Workshop - Monday, October 20 - Apollo Middle School
Meeting 3 - Draft Concept Plan Presentation - Thursday, December 4 - St. Ignatius
Meeting 4 - Draft Detailed Land Use Policy Plan Workshop - Thursday, January 29 - St. Ignatius
Meeting 5 - Draft Building Form Plan Workshop - Thursday, February 19 - St. Ignatius
Meeting 6 - Draft Plan Presentation - Thursday, March 19 - St. Ignatius
Check out this link for updates as the plan progresses. http://www.nashville.gov/mpc/index.htm
Welcome to the new recipients of the newsletter. Feel free to share this with any of your neighbors.
All the best,

South A-Detail was tied up for several hours on multiple calls of trees and power lines down as we experienced a storm system that came through Nashville. 20-30 MPH winds with gusts up to 50 mph hit the area causing a lot of tree and power line damage where patrol cars had to stand-by and wait for NES and OEM, in some cases for hours. Our calls for service increased dramatically. Alarm calls increased as well due to the weather having set them off. Also because of the storm system we had an increase in traffic accidents.
